Hello everyone.
My name is Eric and I’m starting this blog to document my experiences as I begin my journey into the world of high fidelity audio and visual entertainment.
I recently graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of South Florida, where I spent the last two years of my life working as Associate Editor for the University newspaper. While working for the exclusively student-run Oracle had its advantages — never having to leave campus, always having a reasonable excuse for being late to class, ect. — it also meant that as soon as I walked across the stage in my cap and gown, I was effectively “disqualified” from my job. As such, the hangover from my graduation party had barely passed before reality set in and I realized that, wow, I have to get a “real” job.

Here’s a quick excerpt
Guy walks into an electronics store to buy an iPod.  He’s never owned one, but wants to finally get on board like everyone else.  So he finds a salesperson at the local big-box Technomart and politely says he’d like to buy an iPod.  Salesperson says “Which one?”  Customer says “I don’t know, what’s the difference between them?  Can I see them?”  Salesperson tells customer no, you can’t see them, they’re locked in a case.  Then tells customer to go online, look up the differences and pick which one he wants.  After that, he can drive back to the store and the salesperson will gladly sell him the right iPod.  For a higher price than the customer found online.
What’s the right response here?  Laughter? Sarcasm? Outrage? A sad shake of the head?  If you voted all of the above, you’re in the mainstream.  The state of consumer electronics retailing has become […]

            I have noticed in my experience that there is a general unfamiliarity with the main ideas that make up a home theater experience.  The average home owner is likely to be uneducated on the topic (and that’s ok) however they are then subject to the adolescent attempts of big box home theater salesman or the frequent smooth talking technical jargon-expertise of the home theater specialist salesman.  I wish neither of these fates upon you.  You will spend more than you need to spend and not have any more understanding than you began with.  Therefore I just want to write a quick primer on the major components of a 21st century home theater system so you may be a bit more informed, educated , savvy , and less likely to get robbed by the man.  I am no expert, just someone who likes to read, research […]
